Tom Perez doesn't get it. More than 150,000 people called on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to host a presidential primary debate on climate solutions. But DNC Chair Tom Perez said the party won't host an official climate debate or allow candidates to participate in unofficial debates.
We can't wait another four years to start talking seriously about climate solutions. After Perez rejected our demand, over 50 DNC members – more than 10% of the voting membership – submitted their own resolution calling for the debate. Before the DNC's next meeting on June 29, we need to ramp up the pressure and tell Perez and the rest of the party that we need a climate debate.
Join us on Wednesday morning to demand that the DNC reverses its stance and provides a forum for presidential hopefuls to debate one of the greatest threats facing humanity today.
More than a dozen progressive organizations gathered over 150,000 petition signatures calling for a climate debate, and we will be delivering them directly to the DNC.
Speakers at the event will include Karla Stephan of US Youth Climate Strike and Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr. of Hip Hop Caucus.
We only have a few years to act to stop the worst impacts of climate change, and we need to hear candidates' real solutions – not just soundbites. Tom Perez is wasting time that we don't have.
