A warm space for activism, inspiration, learning and movement building.
Following the Women’s March * Anniversary of Citizens United * Weekend after MLK Day
*This event is endorsed by the Women’s March on Washington.”
On the day after inauguration, we are providing a safe, warm space for folks coming to the Women’s March — and other progressive events taking place inauguration weekend — to gain a deeper understanding of the critical challenges facing our nation, find ways to plug into grassroots campaigns that tackle those challenges, connect with people from a vast array of movements and acquire skills to become more effective organizers at home.
The program will consist of an array of panels and workshops about critical grassroots campaigns for the coming year — from campaigns rooted in protecting the rights of women, immigrants, Muslims and people of color to campaigns geared towards demanding democracy, economic justice and a healthy environment.
Since January 21 is also the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United ruling and the Saturday following MLK DAY, the teach-in will launch a serious conversation about what it means to have a democracy in an America where corporate interests rule, votes are suppressed and the constitutional rights of millions are publicly threatened by our elected leaders. Don’t miss the Solidarity Sing-in in the evening!
